Emotionally powerful, well-written songs are always a pleasure to watch live, and that was certainly the case on Saturday night. From her command of the show via driving bass lines to her beautiful singing voice and subtle, nuanced and emotional lyrics, it’s a sight to behold. And if you’re looking for a show of your own to take in, I really can’t recommend Mitski enough. Certainly, with its high-quality sound, excellent lighting system and great sight lines, there’s no question I can’t wait to go back. It’s been a unique experience being able to venture to a stellar venue so frequently, too - including seeing Chairlift last month. There’s nothing like being able to check outstanding bands off your list (in the case of Two Door Cinema Club), and I can’t quite pass up any chance to see Mitski (that’s three shows and counting!). From a soul-stirring Saturday evening with Mitski - the extremely talented songwriter behind two of the best albums to come out of NYC in a while - to a fun and upbeat night jamming to Irish indie rockers Two Door Cinema Club on Monday, it might be the hottest venue in the city. It’s yet another excellent concert to add to my list - a list that includes two shows in three nights as of late! Yes, it’s been stellar and very enjoyable to once again check out the rugged, industrial East Williamsburg venue Brooklyn Steel. At any rate, that’s a show that’ll be tough to pass up - and seeing as tickets go on sale on Friday, I’ll have to be quick on the draw! Will you be making the trek to Queens? TWO DOOR CINEMA CLUB TOUR NYC FULL
This is all to say that it was with great excitement that I saw some neat news pop up on my timeline this afternoon - to celebrate the 15th anniversary of said acclaimed album., they’re playing the record from front-to-back in September at the iconic Forest Hills Stadium in Queens, along with a span of overseas tour dates! It’s not often that a band breaks out its seminal record in full for such a large audience - and there are certainly only a few rock bands with the cache to do that ( Interpol contemporaries like The Killers and The Strokes could stake claim to that). A fixture of the downtown NYC music scene in the early ’00s - with a string of four recent studio albums - they defined the era and crystallized it via crisp, clear sound, sharp on-stage dress and shows at legendary NYC venues like Mercury Lounge.

Two special shows on American soil to commemorate a stellar indie rock album.Īs I write this, I’m listening to the album called out in the headline of this post - that is, “ Turn On the Bright Lights,” the classic 2002 indie rock album from post-punk revival leaders Interpol.
